Day 3 – Feels like a Saturday

Since today is Saturday, I didn’t really feel “retired” or “unemployed.” It just felt like… a regular Saturday.

I started my day the way I have for the past few weeks — at a quiet Saturday morning Qigong class. It’s a peaceful, meditative practice that I’ve come to really enjoy. The class is small (and by small, I mean sometimes it’s just me and the instructor). But there’s something grounding about it — the slow, intentional movements help me clear the mental clutter and redirect my thoughts toward something more positive, more present.

And believe me, I have plenty of mental clutter to clear.

I’m one of those people who wants to make the perfect decision. Every time. Which means I analyze everything to death. I’ll research, compare, evaluate, sleep on it, consult Google, look for signs from the universe… and still find myself second-guessing once the decision is made.

My husband, on the other hand? Lightning-fast decision maker. He doesn’t agonize. He decides, moves on, and rarely looks back.

This used to frustrate me — until I remembered that his job required split-second, life-or-death decisions. He didn’t have time for funding discussions, vendor demos, updated requirements, or committee reviews. My customers might’ve taken months (or years) to decide on a software solution. His decisions often had to be made in under a second.

We are both products of our environments.

Sometimes, our differences balance each other out beautifully. I help him slow down; he helps me not get stuck. Other times? Let’s just say we drive each other absolutely nuts. (“Why haven’t you decided yet?” vs. “Don’t you want to talk it through first??”)

But today — being Saturday — none of that mattered. There were no major life decisions to make. No strategic debates. Just some deep breaths, a few flowing Qigong moves, and the comforting realization that I am a temporary retiree.

Well, now for today’s activities

1.) Qigong

2.) Home Depot and Lowes

3.) Clean up the chicken coop

4.) Gators – to look at lights for the chicken coop

5.) Dairy Queen!

6.) Home for housework and dinner! Of course, I did take some time out to sit in the hot tub!
