Puzzled by Puzzles

I love the idea of working on a puzzle—the image of a table scattered with colorful pieces, a partially completed scene, and anyone passing by adding a few pieces to help. It sounds cozy and satisfying, right?

The reality? I am not a puzzler, and apparently, no one else in my family is either. I recently bought a 1,000-piece puzzle (ages 14+!) thinking it would be loads of fun. I even made a trip to Hobby Lobby to buy a puzzle board since I don’t have room for a dedicated puzzle table.

I started enthusiastically, sorting edge pieces, but quickly realized this was going to take way more time than I expected. I persevered and managed to start building the frame—but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. After several hours, I’m debating whether to keep going, pack it away, or just admit I’m more of a “puzzle dreamer” than a “puzzle doer.”

Maybe someday I’ll try again—with a smaller puzzle and a bigger dose of patience.

Do you enjoy working puzzles, or do they test your patience as much as they do mine?

With love & glitter,
Valerie

  1. Matt and I used to keep a puzzle out to work on during the winter. When people would come over, they would inevitably be drawn to placing a few pieces before moving on to something else. Finishing it became a huge push eventually so we could check it off as done and put the table we kept it out on away and return the room to order. We haven’t even thought about getting a puzzle out the last couple of years and probably won’t this year either. So, I don’t know if we actually “liked” puzzling or if we worked the puzzle because we didn’t have anything else to do.

    1. I have to confess I haven’t even attempted any more work on the puzzle. I discovered I am more of a Hallmark kind of gal than a puzzler. Let me know if you want me to box this puzzle up and send it to you.
