Dates, Downpours, and a Job Interview Dress

With my grandson off at camp this week, my husband and I took full advantage of the extra time and squeezed in a few impromptu dates. We played bingo at the new local pub (yes, we’re officially that couple), watched movies, tried new restaurants, and even spent one rainy day binge-watching Department Q. It was the perfect kind of lazy.

But in the middle of all that coziness, I also took my first official step toward rejoining the working world—I went on a job interview.

It had been years since I sat across from someone and answered questions about myself in a professional setting. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But you know what? I actually enjoyed it.

(Ha! Who enjoys an interview?)

This one felt more like a brainstorming session than a traditional interview. It was casual, conversational, and full of ideas. I walked in knowing that this was as much about me interviewing them as it was about them interviewing me. And that mindset made all the difference. It was refreshing to talk shop again and realize that maybe, just maybe, I still have some gas in the tank.

Of course, in true me fashion, I darted out into the rain and hopped in my car before realizing—I forgot to ask about next steps. Or timing. Oops.

But you know what one of the real highlights was? The outfit.

Yep. I treated myself to a new outfit for the occasion. And I felt fantastic in it. Even my husband—who rarely notices what I wear unless it’s covered in feathers or sparkles—commented on how great it looked. I had fun shopping for it. I loved wearing it. And if nothing else came from the interview, just the chance to dress up and feel like a boss was worth it.

Sometimes it’s the small things—a game of bingo, a new dress, or a great conversation—that remind you you’re still growing, still changing, still showing up.
